Last week's 2023 ALA Annual Conference was a success in every way. Even the weather cooperated and gave us three days of sunshine. The attendees were clearly happy to reconnect with old friends and meet new community members. Themed events like the opening night 'Emerald City' reception highlighted the host city with a live band, created a celebratory mood, and encouraged attendees and sponsors/exhibitors to mingle.
The opening keynote, 'The Science of Happiness,' featured Catherine A. Sanderson, Ph.D. She focused on the roles money, marriage, friendships, age, and other factors play in making us feel happier, the factors that predict happiness, and practical ways to increase our well-being. What a positive way to start the first day of the conference!
With several educational tracks running throughout the conference, there was no lack of practical and usable information for attendees to take back to improve their law firm operations.
ALA Embraces Its Sponsors/Exhibitors
ALA goes out of its way to integrate sponsors and exhibitors into its events. Sponsors are encouraged to attend sessions and participate in networking events. Nothing is off-limits to sponsors/exhibitors, and the exhibit hall buzzes with engagement. The attendees are both interested in the sponsors and thankful for their attendance, going out of their way to express their appreciation.
Between sessions, coffee, beverages, lunch, and snacks are served in the exhibit hall to encourage attendees to visit often. The Tuesday evening 'Fun and Games' reception was yet another example of ALA's commitment to engagement. Exhibitors were encouraged to plan games which ranged from Trivia (think Trivial Pursuit) competitions to Cornhole to Plinko, and a good time was had by all.
